Im
originally from Melbourne, Australia, but Ive lived in and
around Vancouver for 25 years, and for most of those years Ive
worked as a freelance journalist and writer. Ive worked in
the business, city and feature sections of the Vancouver Sun, as
the Vancouver correspondent for Marketing Magazine, and as a researcher
for CBC-TV.
I have
a communications degree from Simon Fraser University, a journalism
diploma from Langara College, and hold both the Canadian Securities
course and the Registered Representatives designation.
While
most of my writing revolves around business, Ive written about
everything from disappearing aboriginal languages to longshorewomen.
I love everything about the writing process: the research, the interviews
and putting the actual words down on paper. At times its exciting.
I covered the 1994 Stanley Cup riots for the Vancouver Sun, Ive
interviewed a company president while flying in his private jet,
and Ive written a story from up in a Blimp.
Im
also a mother with a passion for history and heritage houses and
Ive managed to parlay these interests into At Home with History:
The Secrets of Greater Vancouver's Heritage Homes (Anvil Press,
2007), The Life & Art of Frank Molnar, Jack Hardman and LeRoy
Jensen (Mother Tongue Publishing, 2009) and a guide book called
Frommers Vancouver with Kids (John Wiley & Sons Canada,
2001).
